WordPress Migration Continues ... New Pages

The front page of ASDHollywood.com has migrated again, this time to WordPress 3.5 (very long story that has to do with the way my host, 1and1.com, deals with click-and-build versus do-it-yourself -- the short of it is that I had hoped to use "click-and-build" but realized that if I want to keep the site current, I'll have to use do-it-yourself). The front page of Dalinka.com remains in a click-and-build installation of WordPress 3.4.2. One of the plugins I had hoped to use, also hasn't been upgraded by its authors to compatibility with WordPress 3.5, so I've had to find some other plugins and develop more code behind the scenes to make the page-by-page transition to the new platform. I certainly have more tweaking to do to the page layout to take full advantage of the "Responsive Theme" and its ability as good on mobile devices as on other browsers. I also have a bit more learning and experimenting to do before I (hopefully) may be able to one day say page transitions could be easy. So far, the creation of the About page was not too difficult. More difficult was the creation of a "Disney "places" in LA page to transition the old page that hosted only photos of Encounter Restaurant at LAX into a page that also includes photos of Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown L.A. and some Hollywood Boulevard sites. Creation of the new version of the "Disney Studios Burbank" page wasn't as easy as I hoped after what I learned and created for the LA page. Indeed, the YouTube embedding is not working as advertised -- it's making the video way too big on the page. In any event, Disney in New York and Disney in Chicago will be next....

Back from Disneyland and Los Angeles

Just spent a week in Southern California visiting Disneyland, including Candlelight Processional at Disneyland, and the incredible new Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and (slightly less new) World of Color show and Little Mermaid ride at Disney California Adventure. During the trip, I also visited Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Burbank, Studio City, Santa Monica and many other sites around the area ... and, if you caught it just right, I was even seen on Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on both Thursday and Friday nights (since both episodes were taped back-to-back on Thursday), with a very nice on-camera moment for me right next to Craig as he ran through the audience about five minutes before the end of Friday's show. Some pictures are on the PhotoBlog now; more photos on the site soon.

ASDHollywood is migrating to WordPress

Now that I'm mostly using Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, I'm tired of trying to maintain the site with iWeb since Apple no longer supports it and thus, likely, will never further enhance it.  So far, I've designed a new WordPress template and migrated the front page of ASDHollywood.com and the "About" page to that format.  Dalinka.com will migrate next.

You can expect more tweaks/improvements to come and pages will move over to the new platform over the coming days/weeks/months.  The good news is that, as an end-user, your visit to my site shouldn't really change at all.  If you have bookmarks or links to my site or main pages, those should keep working and/or be appropriately forwarded.  If not, please be sure to let me know.  Enjoy.

1200 Chicago Photos and other fixes

There are now 1200 Photos of Chicago on the site, and lots of broken image links have been fixed as well.  Several hundred more Chicago photos coming soon and, perhaps, a simpler way to select what to view.

Update 10/21/2012:  Now there are over 1400 photos...
Update 10/24/2012:  Over 1500 photos, which brings the site up to date!

More than 170 Summer 2012 WDW Photos posted

Yes, another Walt Disney World visit is now complete.  July 29 to August 2, 2012 at Disney's BoardWalk Resort.  More than 170 new photos are now up on the Walt Disney World 2012 page.  Enjoy.

Also, I think all of the site modifications were completed by the end of June (and I haven't come across a bug in awhile), but if you find one, please let me know.  Thanks.

Site modifications are underway

Trying to do away with the last vestiges of the old format for the site.  As the asdhollywood.com pages migrate to the "Redesigned" look and code (Summer 2011 iWeb version), some page errors may appear if you haven't cleared your cache since your last visit or if I inadvertently don't link something correctly.  Simply reloading is not always enough to get the page to display correctly as the migration continues -- please stay tuned, but clear your cache from time-to-time.  I hope to complete this project in June 2012.

As I work through the migration, I am adding photos throughout the site to reward those visiting old pages.  Enjoy and thanks for your patience.

40+ New Photos of Chicago

Warmest March on record meant more time outdoors than usual.  Lots of photos from North Michigan Avenue and Lincoln Park, among others.  These new photos (from October 2011 to March 2012) can appear within the Random 50 Photos on ASD's Home Page and all of them are included on the Home Town Chicago page (albeit in random order).

I've also taken this opportunity to fix the links to photos stored off-site so that there shouldn't be missing photos.  If you find a photo wouldn't load, please let me know what page of the site you were viewing and a description of what wouldn't load.

Walt Disney World for New Year's 2011-12

Just back from celebrating the New Year at Walt Disney World.  Lots of photos and, of course, the countdown fireworks from New Year's Eve.
